Astro Locator is provided by Progress Concepts Ltd. This policy explains how the app and this website handle information.
App Use
Astro Locator uses location data so it can show direction, latitude, longitude, altitude, sunrise, sunset, and astro twilight information relevant to your position.
Astro Locator does not require you to create an account to use the app.
Information Used By The App
Astro Locator uses some information on your device in order to function. This does not by itself mean that the information is sent to us.
That on-device information may include:
- precise location data from your device
- device and sensor data needed for compass, elevation, and related measurements
Information Sent To Us Or Our Providers
Depending on how you use Astro Locator, information sent to us or our providers may include:
- limited usage, identifier, and diagnostic information needed to understand app feature use, reliability, and performance
- limited technical details included with support requests, such as app version, device type, operating system version, and related diagnostic context
- information you choose to send when you contact support from within the app
How We Use Information
We use this information to:
- provide the core functionality of the app
- help diagnose support issues when you contact us
- maintain, debug, and improve the app
- monitor reliability and performance
Analytics And Diagnostics
We operate our own analytics systems.
For app analytics, we may collect limited technical and usage information such as app version, device type, operating system version, feature usage, and a rotating device identifier. The rotating device identifier is used to help prevent duplicate counting and support aggregate measurement. It is rotated after 14 days.
This analytics information may also include limited contextual information, such as permission status, country or region, and language, where needed to interpret product interaction and technical performance, but we do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Raw app analytics data is retained in active systems for up to 28 days so that aggregate reporting can be produced. After that period, the raw device-level analytics data is removed from active use and we then retain only aggregated analytics information in normal operation. Copies may remain in backups for a longer period before they are overwritten or deleted.
Apple may also make app crash, performance, and similar diagnostic information available to us through its developer tools. That information is provided by Apple under Apple’s own processes and policies.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share limited information with service providers where reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, host, secure, or support the app and website, or where required by law.
Our current service providers include:
- Linode for hosting and infrastructure
- Fastmail for email
- Apple for app distribution and platform-provided diagnostics
Website
This website is hosted on Linode. It may collect basic server and analytics data such as IP address, browser details, pages requested, and approximate usage patterns. Website analytics are derived from server logs. Server logs may temporarily include IP addresses and similar request metadata for security, operational, and analytics purposes.
Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy. Raw app analytics data is kept in active systems for up to 28 days, after which it is removed from active use and only aggregated analytics information is retained in normal operation. Copies may remain in backups for a longer period before they are overwritten or deleted. Server logs may be retained for up to 28 days before deletion or anonymisation. Technical logs and diagnostic data may also be kept for limited periods and then deleted or aggregated.
Your Choices
You can control location access through iOS settings. If you disable location services or related permissions, parts of Astro Locator will not function correctly.
If you contact us, you do not have to provide more information than is necessary to deal with your request.
Support requests you send by email or from within the app may include the information you choose to provide, together with diagnostic information included to help us investigate the issue, such as app version, device type, operating system version, and related technical details. That information may be processed through our email provider, Fastmail, so that we can respond to you and troubleshoot the issue.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you. To make a request, use the contact details below.
Changes
This policy may be updated from time to time. The current version will be published on this page.
